The photo of the month for October 2020 goes to Deon Sinclair from Big Red Carpet Cleaning. This particular water damage job needed some heat drying on a kitchen floor.

To begin with the laminate floor had to be removed to allow access to the wet concrete. From the photo we can see an air mover fan hooked up with a Drymatic Boost and a floor mat. The Boost and floor mat allows us to raise the surface temperature of the concrete and dry the material. Raising the surface temperature 10 degrees above the ambient temperature allows us to double the evaporation rate. This is an easy job for the Drymatic Boost.

With the equipment set up and running we need to drill into the concrete to check that it is actually dry. Using a 90mm drill bit to drill into the concrete floor, we then put sleeves into the holes and leave it for 24 hours. The next day we drop a hygrometer probe into the sleeves and allows it to sit and equalise for about 20-30 mins before we can get accurate readings with the hygrometer.

Once the relative humidity is under 70% at the ambient temperature then the concrete is dried to the ASTM F2170 standard. Using a Drymatic Boost and floor mats accelerates the process of drying the concrete and reaching the ASTM F2170 standard is a quick and easy process.

Great work Deon, textbook heat drying on this water damage job.
